About Winds
Winds of Southern Wisconsin was started in 1990 to support the goals of the American Recorder Society by providing financial resources to hire workshop leaders, create a library of music, and provide a meeting place for players looking for others to form consorts. Read our semi-brief history here.
Our group organizes three 8-10 week workshops per year. Each workshop is followed by an informal public performance. Recent performances have been held in the State Capitol rotunda. Single-day workshops are offered a couple of times a year.
Recent workshop leaders have included Louise Austin, David Echelard, Clea Galhano, Lisette Kielson, and Elizabeth Marshall.
Informal group playing meetings are held on Monday nights from 7:30 to 9:30 throughout the year when formal workshops are not scheduled. These gatherings are devoted to sight-reading an assortment of music.
We meet at Trinity Lutheran Church, 1904 Winnebago St, in Madison. Please write info@windsofsouthernwisconsin.org for more information.
